LOCATION: Kayu Maya is located on Staniel Cay, in the heart of the Exumas in the Bahamas. This island is a secret hideaway known only amongst the few who treasure their privacy. Just 75 miles South of Nassau and 250 miles from Miami. Staniel Cay is a boater's paradise. A 3,000 foot airstrip, adjacent marina, restaurant, church, post office, retail shops, and boating supply store offer all the amenities required for comfortable island living. Just a few miles from the land and sea natural preservation park, Staniel and the Exumas chain offer some of the most amazing dive and snorkeling sites as well as some of the richest fishing grounds in the Bahamas. The island is a close community where new comers are welcomed as friends. Some of the island's four legged friends even venture to welcome you as you pull ashore. This is the pinnacle of island living. Kayu Maya is perched atop a 40’ ridge line on a one acre lot which runs 1,000 feet from its secluded white sand beach to the East to a protected creek with dockage to the west. From this vantage point, Kayu Maya lets you watch both the sunrise and sunset from the comfort of your living room.
LAYOUT: As you wind up the road, your first view of Kayu Maya will be its grand façade. The curved entrance walls welcome you down a long colonnade hallway. In the distance you catch a glimmer of the ocean and you feel as if the home is suspended just inches from the water. Your first instinct is to run down the hall and confirm that your eyes are not deceiving you. But to your left, the sound of water and sparkling sunshine catches your attention. The courtyard water garden is an oasis within an oasis. Functionally, it acts as privacy space between the East and West facing living quarters.
In the main entertainment area, you are surrounded by folding glass windows, you absorb the unobstructed view. Above you, fan shaped carved beams seem to speak the story of Kayu Maya. Everywhere you look, intricate carvings elegantly coexist with natural materials and exotic decorations. You feel transported to another world.
You look East and see the pool which seems to flow from beneath your feet and end somewhere in the distance. A bar seems to emerge out of the ocean. To your right a shaded terrace beckons you to sit and relax.
As you make your way to the terrace you realize that the kitchen cabinetry, beams, columns... all the woodwork seems to be built out of a single piece of lumber and granite reveals luxury appliances behind the kitchen an enormous pantry house a wine cooler, refrigerator, and laundry facilities.
As you retrace your steps through the entertainment area, a few steps lead you into the master suite. The view from the king size bed is breathtaking and you feel like your toes will touch the ocean.
The master bathroom which includes a shower, private water closet, huge walk-in closet, twin sinks, Jacuzzi tub and outdoor shower blurs the distinction between the indoors and outdoors.
Adjacent to the master suite, a bedroom with spectacular views becomes the ideal place to settle-in the kids and keep and eye on them. The room with its own bathroom is just steps away from the living room and courtyard water garden.
Friends and family who are lucky enough to be on your guest list will be lodged in the West wing. Two large bedrooms overlook the creek and water garden. Each room with its own bathroom will provide you and your guests with privacy and comfort. Extra guests can be accommodated in the spacious two bedroom guest cottage located above the the two car garage opposite your two brand new 40 ft finger docks that are included with the property.
It feels like you just arrived minutes ago, but the sun will soon meet the horizon. Turn on the fire pit, light up the grill and relax over a drink in the sunset patio and garden. Your adventures at Kayu Maya have just begun.
